Questions

Electrical questions, answered

Do we need to move up to 200 amps?

Not necessarily. The answer comes from a load calculation that weighs everything the house already runs against what you want to add, such as a charger, a heat pump or a larger kitchen. Plenty of homes have the headroom already; where yours does not, we price the service upgrade in writing, utility coordination included.

How do you arrive at a price for a panel upgrade?

By looking at it. The amperage you need, the age and position of the existing panel and meter, the utility's requirements and the amount of wall that has to be opened all shape the figure. We assess those at a free walkthrough and hand you a written number tied to that scope.

What happens if something you installed fails later?

Your workmanship cover runs for two years. If a fault comes from our installation, for instance a loosened connection on a device we put in, a termination made incorrectly, a poorly secured outlet, switch or plate, or a circuit interruption caused by how we connected it, we return to assess it and correct it at no extra labor charge. It excludes manufacturer defects, normal wear, misuse, modifications or work by others, and conditions in existing wiring that could not be seen during the job; manufacturer warranties on equipment still apply separately.

Something is buzzing or smells hot. Can you come quickly?

Turn off the breaker feeding it and call. During working hours, faults with heat, scorching or a dead main are moved ahead of booked work, and on the call we will say whether yours is one of them. If there is smoke or flame, get everyone out and call 911.

Will an EV charger fit our garage setup?

In most garages it will. A Level 2 unit wants its own circuit and enough spare service capacity, and on a wooded lot the distance from panel to garage matters too. We measure both at the walkthrough and price either a straightforward install or the panel work it needs first.

Do you take care of permits?

Yes. Anything that changes the panel, adds a circuit, installs a charger or rewires rooms is permitted work, so we apply for the permit, meet the inspector and give you the approval when it passes. Like-for-like swaps of a light or switch usually need none.
